About this workshop

Greetings, creative and creative-aligned practitioners, freelancers, social enterprises, and businesses (SMEs) across County Durham!

  • Are you worried about staying afloat right now?
  • Are there funding streams that are now closed to you and you’re not sure where else to look?
  • Have you been daunted by the prospect of filling in funding application forms and meeting deadlines?
  • Has rejection in applying for funding in the past thrown you?

During these unprecedented times, those working within the creative economy have faced challenges funding their work and/or generating income. With 2021 off to a difficult start and a long road ahead until we see any resumption of ‘normal’, the pressure continues for small or sole-trading creative practitioners or businesses to generate income or funding support. You may be aware of the more traditional routes to funding within the creative industries, such as Arts Council England (ACE) and NESTA, but perhaps you could do with a refresher or insight into other forms of funding or even in-kind support to help you.

The Creative Fuse NE team at Durham University is here to help you do this. Join us for an interactive, hands-on 2-part workshop series aimed at helping you navigate the funding landscape right now and going forward. We have invited funding experts from the university to share top tips and latest updates in funding from a range of sources. We’re also tapping into our team’s knowledge of applying for funding, writing, project management, and the creative landscape to help you determine a pathway toward funding. Our follow-up writing session (Part 2) provides important tutor and peer support to help you move forward.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE WHOLE SERIES? It is highly advisable that you attend both sessions to get the most out of this series, especially the first workshop on February 18. An arrangement can be made if you can only attend part of the second workshop on February 25. We also understand the pressures right now with home schooling and other caring responsibilities, so will do our best to support and work around you. There will be plenty of breaks during the sessions as well.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Only registered SMEs, freelancers, or sole traders from County Durham are eligible to participate in this series. What is Creative Fuse NE @ Durham?

Creative Fuse NE @ Durham is a project operating out of Durham University’s Business School and aimed at supporting the creative industry across County Durham to innovate, survive, and grow during these unprecedented times. We are a team comprised of experts in business research, innovation, and digital skills and technology. We are part of the regionwide Creative Fuse NE project which is a collaboration between all five universities in the North East.

We provide supportive workshops focused on themes of importance to the creative economy, a creative community of peers to connect with, one-to-one support with the team and the wider university community, and lots of exposure to events and activities across the region and country to help you not only get through these times but thrive and grow.
