About this workshop

The Creative Fuse NE team at Durham University invites you to attend our foundational workshop series, *Your Journey: The First Step*, where you will learn about creative practice and innovation, and then reflect and apply it to developing your creative business and practice during these uncertain times. These will be very hands-on, supportive and interactive sessions where you’ll learn, practice, build, and talk together with other creatives to adapt and grow by focusing on areas of direct interest and concern to you. This is a transformative experience.

When and where is this happening and what’s planned?

This is a two-part 6.5-hour workshop series. You will need to attend both sessions. They will take place online via Zoom on these dates and times:

  • Session 1: Thursday, June 10, 1-4 pm
  • Session 2: Thursday, June 17, 10:00-1:30 pm
  • Optional practice session: Wednesday, June 16, 2-3 pm

This is an important foundational series that helps you move ahead into other content offered by Creative Fuse.

What’s to be expected from each session?

Session 1, Thursday, June 10, 1-4 pm (via Zoom)

  • Introductions: you and your creative practice
  • Latest research and work on creativity, innovation, business resiliency, and the creative sector
  • Practice-based research and how to develop new ideas and products in an uncertain climate
  • Reflecting on our own practice and how to develop further: The Self-Assessment Tool
    ** With lots of interactive, fun and supportive activities to help us learn, reflect, and act**

Optional additional session. June 16, 2-3 pm (via Zoom)

This optional session provides time to work the self-assessment activity assigned to you at the end of Session 1.

Session 2, Thursday, June 17, 10:00 am- 1:30 pm (via Zoom)

  • Reflecting on the Self-Assessment Tool and understanding your needs and challenges as a creative business
  • Developing a roadmap toward growth and development
  • Putting your plan to work: next steps
    ** This hands-on session will help you reflect on where you are as a business and where you need to go next**

Eligibility Requirements

If you’re running a small to medium business or enterprise (this includes charities, freelancers, artists, and sole traders!) with a County Durham address and you don’t have more than 249 employees, haven’t received more than 200,000 euros in State Aid over the previous three years, and have turned over less than 43 million euros per year (wow, if you have!), then you’re eligible to participate! If you’re still not sure but want to participate, please fill in the form below and we’ll work with you to complete the paperwork.

Participation Requirements
We will be delivering this course online. To participate fully, you should ideally have:

  • Internet access
  • A PC/laptop and/or a tablet with a working microphone, audio and video camera
  • Zoom installed
