Thank you to those of you who joined us for our Comics CAKE event in January! Your numbers and enthusiasm and questions for our amazing panel of Doug Braithwaite, Lydia Wysocki and Zoe Thorogood made it a special occasion.
We’ve seen on the chat and the social media reaction how people were inspired by the art on show and the life experiences of the creators as they told their stories. Some comments were:
‘This was really great! Learned a lot and feeling inspired. It was lovely seeing everyone’s work too! Thank you everyone.’
‘That writing advice is extremely validating’
‘I think it’s very important to have a space where you can go and share ideas.’
One thing that people mentioned in the discussion was how particular groups and contacts in other regions helped writers and artists develop their skills and get their work finished and published. Following up on this we would like to launch a new Action Learning set for the North East region called Comics CreateNet. This will be a growing network for both professionals in the industry as well as artists and aspiring creators to share their work and challenges and to learn about opportunities for funding and resources available locally. We also hope to draw on more of the talented stars we have here in the region as in the CAKE event.
What is Action Learning?
An Action Learning approach is a simple and powerful way for individuals to learn from each other. Through action, reflection and discussion, participants gain a deeper understanding of the issues or opportunities that they face, compare and exchange experience with their peers and can support the ability to manage or respond to change more effectively. The most important aspects of action learning are the principles that learning should be open, reflective, practical and shared, with the programme agenda shaped by all participants.
When will this be delivered?
Comics CreateNet will start a programme of six sessions during Spring 2022. The sessions will begin online and may switch to in-person meeting depending on how people feel. The agenda will be owned by participants and we will bring in guests to help support people’s interests.
How do i register?
