Culture Hubs: Bespoke

The Culture Hubs scheme responds to the needs of the creative, arts and crafts economy by bringing help close to home. Away from urban centres, the North East’s creative economy is rural and small traders can feel especially isolated. Our programmes will be run out of regional cultural ‘hubs’ – museums, craft centres and galleries – drawing together like-minded businesses for support.

These fully-funded activities are designed and delivered by the Creative Fuse team based at Durham University. We aim to give you at least 12 hours of support, this could include booking two or more workshops from the list below, or attending one workshop and following up with individual support from the team.

Bespoke is a programme of workshops and hands-on support tailored around your needs. Very small businesses and lone craftspeople often have more specialized requirements and desires than larger enterprises.

Working out of hubs around County Durham as well as within Durham University, experienced practitioners and academics will assess the needs of particular artists and businesses close to that hub, and devise a set of activities to help with challenge areas.

Workshop: Funding Finder

You may need funding to get a new venture started, or to take your business to the next level. Durham University’s research teams have expertise in finding funding sources, and in writing and assessing proposals, and will steer you through the process of developing your own.

Workshop: Teaching Your Art

Many artists want to share their skills and teach workshops to the general public, but don’t know how to set about it. This activity will help you plan your first event; allow you to meet artists who have already branched out successfully; and scope the necessary resources to start your new venture.

In this hands-on, play-based creative workshop, we’ll explore what inspires us and makes us tick as creatives. We’ll not only be engaged with hands-on creating and making, but also share and learn from each other to expand and innovate our work in ways we’d not have imagined. The goal is to create something new that might expand your business into markets you’ve not previously considered.
